3. C.6. Staff members providing student support services, such as tutoring, financial aid advising, academic advising, and co-curricular activities, are appropriately qualified, trained, and supported in their professional development.

Miller College supports staff through both conference training at state, regional, and/or national conferences throughout the year. The College also supports staff to attain a higher level degree through tuition remission.

Staff members attend regional, state and/or national conferences in their field. The Registrar and the Director of Enrollment Management is/has attended MACRAO (Michigan Association of Collegiate Registrars and Admissions Officers). The Dean of Student Services and Financial Aid has attended the National Financial Aid Officers training, in addition to participating in regional training. Both the Dean of Student Services and Financial Aid and the Registrar act as Veterans Administration Certifying Officials and have attended regional training. The Registrar is new to being a VA Certifying Official and attended online training in the fall of 2011. Both the Director of Enrollment Management and Registrar are members of ACCRAO. The college has financially supported student services personnel in their attendance at Higher Learning Commission Conferences, and all conferences and training thus far cited. The College further supports growth and professional development by reimbursing faculty and staff for tuition in their pursuit of advanced degrees. Currently, the Dean of Student Services and Financial Aid has completed her master’s degree, Director of Campus Services will begin her master’s degree in Business Administration in the fall of 2012, and the Registrar is currently working on her master’s degree in Information Resource Management. All staff members are encouraged to continue their education and receive a Master’s degree.
