5. A. 3.   The goals incorporated into mission statements or elabora­tions of mission statements are realistic in light of the institu­tion’s organization, resources, and opportunities.

Achievement of the goals embedded within Miller College’s Mission is assessed in each school’s assessment plan and annual assessment status report, which align the Mission with each school’s Learning Outcomes. Data reported in these assessment plans consistently demonstrate that Miller College has been successful in meeting the goals established by the Mission with its current resources (See School Assessment Plans, Assessment Status Report).

Evidence:

While the assessment plans give a snapshot of current and past achievement of the Mission, the Strategic Plan provides a roadmap for future initiatives to extend and elaborate the Mission. Originally developed with input from all members of the faculty, staff and administration, the goals established in the Strategic Plan were envisioned with an ambitious projected year-to-year enrollment growth of 15%. Actual enrollments met or exceeded projections for most semesters up through Summer 2011, allowing the College to work toward fulfillment of the budgetary priorities established by the President’s Council in its annual evaluation of strategic initiatives (See 5.A.5). As actual enrollments grew at a less robust pace in 2011-2012, strategic initiatives were re-evaluated and re-prioritized, and the projected enrollment growth rates for future semesters were lowered to 5% to provide a more realistic budgetary scenario to guide future goal-setting. Thus, while the Strategic Plan establishes ambitious goals for achievement and elaboration of the College Mission, a commitment to continuous improvement guides prioritization and enactment of the initiatives developed in that Plan to keep the work of the College sustainable with its actual resources (See President’s Council and College Forum minutes, September 2011 and January 2012).
