5. C. 1 The institution allocates its resources in alignment with its mission and priorities.

Miller College’s Mission, “to graduate students who exhibit a high level of competence in their area of study and demonstrate service to the community” and to value “student learning, critical thinking, oral and written communication skills, and an understanding of a globally-oriented world,” informs all decision-making and strategic planning at the College. Indeed, the goals of the Strategic Plan – to enhance Miller College’s external partnerships (Michigan Community Colleges, area business and industry, area health care facilities, local and federal government installations, foundations, and community based organizations), to continue to improve the quality of the academic programs, to continue to improve the quality of and effectiveness of instruction and delivery, to continue to improve student learning and success, and to develop new initiatives to recruit, admit, and retain outstanding students – are aligned to the core values of the Mission. Objectives and initiatives undergirding these goals (for example, “to graduate students who are academically prepared to assume leadership roles in their chosen fields” and “to create quality continuing education programs for our graduates and the community”) are also rooted in the Mission. Thus, the Strategic Plan serves as an action plan for making the Miller College Mission manifest in the daily work of the College. As detailed in 5.A.5 and 5.C.2, this Strategic Plan not only guides the work of all areas of the College, it also ensures that the College Mission guides resource allocation by laying out strategic initiatives and informing the prioritization of budgetary items each fiscal year.
