Challenge IV: Succession Planning
Response:
At the time of the previous visit in 2007 a transition plan was being implemented. The Miller College President, Dr. Paul Ohm retired after serving three years, officially retiring from the college on August 23, 2009 and the new President, David J. Harris, J.D., assumed the presidency of Miller College on August 2, 2009 after the Board of Trustees completed a broad national search.
President Harris resigned as of August 7th, 2012. Dr. Paul R. Ohm, immediate past president and president emeritus was asked by the College Board to come out of retirement and serve the College as President through the 2012-13 academic year and until a presidential search was concluded.
On-going discussions occur with the Miller College Board of Trustees in Executive Sessions regarding a new President for the College. The College Organizational Chart outlines the current roles and responsibilities reflecting opportunities for cross-training and advancement within the current framework/staff. The College Board has asked President Ohm to prepare a confidential succession plan for their review prior to the team visit in February 2013. The plan will be available for private review by the team members.
