Institutional Progress

2000-2012 has provided an opportunity for Miller College to make continuous improvement in many areas throughout the institution.  The College has experienced many events and has made progress in its institutional growth through the following notable/significant events:

Significant Events 2000-2012

December   27, 2000

The   Miller Foundation decided to acquire the Articles of Incorporation from the   D. W. Kendall College of Art and Design in Grand Rapids, Michigan.  The Kendall College of Art and Design was   being incorporated into Ferris State University, and their Articles would   expire on January 1, 2001.

Michigan   Department of Consumer and Industry Services Filing Endorsement

Certifies   the Articles of Incorporation-Non-Profit for Private School Development   Corporation.

March   2002

Kellogg   Community College completed the Feasibility Study for Bachelor’s Degree Needs   and submitted the results to the Miller Foundation.

November   26, 2002

The   first meeting of the Board of Trustees of the Private School Development   Corporation.

November   26, 2002

Arthur   W. Angood was selected as the Founding President of the organization known as   the Private School Development Corporation.

March   26, 2003

The   Board of Trustees of the Private School Development Corporation approved a   name change to The Robert B. Miller College, selected trustees, and approved   Arthur W. Angood as the President of The Robert B. Miller College.

May 2003

The   action of the Miller Foundation to begin the College was announced with a   projected start date of Fall 2005.

January   1, 2004

Mentoring   Agreement with Aquinas College signed.

April   28, 2004

The   first Advisory Committee Meetings were held.

July 26,   2004

Preliminary   approval of Miller College from the State Board of Education as a Michigan   Teacher Preparation Institution.

June   2005

First   classes were held at Miller College (School of Education).

January   1, 2006

Dr.   Paul Ohm, former Miller College Vice-President, becomes the College’s second   President, upon the retirement of Dr. Art Angood.

May 22,   2006

A   Statement of Affiliation Status was issued from the Higher Learning   Commission indicating Miller College had achieved Candidacy Status with the   stipulation on affiliation status listed as: “Accreditation at the Bachelor’s   Level is limited to the Bachelor of Applied Science and the Bachelor of   Science.

May 13,   2007

The first Commencement   celebrated.

February   14, 2008

Miller College was Accredited   by the Higher Learning Commission, a member of the North Central Association.

February   12-13, 2009

Committee   of Scholars Site Visit to Miller College for the Teacher Preparation Program.  

August   2, 2009

David
  Harris, J.D. appointed as new President of Miller College.

October   13, 2009

The   State Board of Education granted probationary approval to the Robert B.   Miller College professional education unit (Teacher Preparation Institution)   for three years (October 2009-August 2012)

September   20-21, 2010

Commission   on Collegiate Nursing Education (CCNE) Site Visit

September   20, 2010

The Commission on   Collegiate Nursing Education (CCNE) Accredited the Miller College   Baccalaureate Degree Program in Nursing.    The accreditation is effective as of September 20, 2010 for a term of   five years.

June 25,   2012

The   School of Education received unanimous approval from the Michigan Department   of Education’s Committee of Scholars for recommending the Miller College   Teacher Preparation Program to the State Board of Education for Final   Approval. Final approval is expected at the SBE Meeting in September or   October 2012. 

August   16, 2012

Miller   College Board of Trustees named former Miller College President, Dr. Paul   Ohm, as President on Thursday, August 16th, 2012 after the   resignation of Dr. David Harris on Tuesday, August 7, 2012. Harris left the   College after a three-year term to pursue a consulting opportunity.
