Summer 2013 SCECH Offerings

The Robert B. Miller College is pleased to be a sponsor for Michigan State Continuing Education Clock Hours (SCECHs). From one-day workshops to semester-long courses, we strive to make the Miller College Institute your Battle Creek home for professional development. Here's what we have planned for the Summer 2013 semester. Please keep checking back as we continue to develop and add new programs!  

Professional Development Courses

The Miller College Institute offers a selection of popular courses from the Miller College catalog for SCECHs as well as traditional credit. This allows in-service teachers to experience the quality of instruction that Miller College is known for at a discount. To register for a SCECH course, please download the appropriate registration form, complete it, and return it to Miller College with payment. You may register in person or by mail by sending your form and payment to Dr. Sean Kottke, Binda School of Education, The Robert B. Miller College, 450 North Ave., Battle Creek, MI 49017. You may also register by fax by sending your completed form to (269) 565-2180 ATTN: Sean Kottke. Payment may be sent to the above address or brought to campus in person. PLEASE NOTE: THESE FORMS AND INSTRUCTIONS ARE ONLY FOR PARTICIPANTS SEEKING SCECHs. IF YOU WISH TO RECEIVE COLLEGE CREDIT FOR MILLER COLLEGE COURSES, PLEASE CONTACT THE STUDENT SERVICES OFFICE.

  • EDUC 490: SPECIAL TOPICS (AUTISM)
    • INFORMATION: This course earns 60 SCHECHs and meets the following Tuesday evenings from 6:00 to 9:00 PM: July 9, July 16, July 23, July 30, August 6, August 13, August 20 and August 27. Attendance for the full duration of all sessions and completion of all assigned readings, presentations and homework tasks is mandatory for awarding of SCECHs. Cost is $200.00. Registration is not considered complete until the registration form and payment of the SCECH fee is received by Miller College. Teachers who work in Battle Creek Educator's Task Force-affiliated schools may have half of their SCECH fees paid through a scholarship from the Binda Foundation. Click here to download the SCECH registration and scholarship form for EDUC 490 (221 KB, PDF).
    • DESCRIPTION: This course offers an overview of autism spectrum disorders, including history, statistics and interventions. Explore evidence-based techniques for supporting students with ASD in the general education setting, including educational strategies, universal supports and positive behavioral interventions. Participants will d evelop resources to educate others about ASD, read personal accounts of autism, research treatment approaches and develop a variety of individualized supports.
