PRIZES

• All participants will receive a soft cover David Small/Sarah Stewart book to keep.
• Participating classes will receive 2-3 books to keep in their classroom as models for the contest.
• Participating students will receive one blank book to use for their final entry. ALL WRITING AND ILLUSTRATIONS MUST BE DONE ON THE BOOK PROVIDED.

FIRST ROUND:
Up to six winners from each grade, for each category, from each participating elementary school, will be selected by the elementary school to move forward to the second round. Students will decide which category they would like to enter based on their final book entry.
DEADLINE FOR SUBMISSION: ON OR BEFORE DECEMBER 16, 2009.

Prize for First Round:
Students selected to move forward will receive a participation certificate and names will be published in the local papers.

Categories Include:
Best Illustration
Best Writing
Best Overall Book

SECOND ROUND:
Miller College Education students will select up to six winners per category, per grade county wide to move forward to the final round.
DEADLINE: STORIES RETURNED TO JENNY ANDREWS BY FEBRUARY 1, 2010.

Prize for Second Round:
Illustrations from this round will be hand selected to appear alongside David Small's artwork at the Art Center of Battle Creek and may be published in the local media.

THIRD AND FINAL ROUND:
Select panel will receive the final round submissions and choose a 1st, 2nd, and 3rd place winner for each category for each grade (3rd; 4th; 5th): Best Illustration; Best Writing; Best Overall Book. This will result in 27 winners from Calhoun County.

Student works selected in the final round will be published in one book. (Final round winners will receive one book as part of their prize and other copies will be available for sale at the awards dinner and thereafter at Miller College.)

Prizes for Final Round Winners:
Winners will be invited via mail to the Awards Dinner on March 17, 2010. Their place will be announced that evening. Each student will receive (4) free invitations - all other attendees will be asked for $5.00 prior to the event to help cover cost. Location to be determined.
