TIMELINE OF EVENTS

May 31, 2009 - Mail packets to all teachers, principals, art teachers, etc. with details of conference and contest.

June 30, 2009 - Commit to Jenny your willingness to participate in the Miller College Children's Literature Project. See form included in this packet.

August 2009 - A reminder will be sent to schools and Jenny will begin presentations for schools seeking more information and/or clarity.

August 17, 2009 - RSVP for Instructional Seminar on Aug. 25, 2009.

August 25, 2009 @ 12:00 pm - Instructional Seminar at Miller College. Lunch will be provided at noon and class will run from 1:00 to 3:00 pm. AccessVision will be taping. Seating is limited!

September 14, 2009 - Participating classrooms will receive model books and blank books from Jenny.

Oct/Nov 2009 - Teachers should begin the illustration/writing assignment with their 3rd, 4th, and 5th graders. Every student (or pair of students) is expected to submit one complete book, regardless of which category they are intending to enter into for competition. (Best Illustration; Best Writing; Best Overall Book)

December 2009 - Schools will decide how to choose winners from each grade to move up in the competition. Winners should be announced and reported to Jenny on or before December 16 - completed stories should be sent to Jenny at Miller College. Up to six books from each grade for each category for each teacher should be selected from each grade to move forward.

January 2010 - Miller College education students will combine stories from all districts and choose up to six winners per category countywide. Books will be returned to Jenny by February 1st.

February 2010 - Exhibit of David Small's artwork to appear at the Art Center.

February 7, 2010 - Opening Reception of the David Small Exhibit at the B.C. Art Center - 2:00 to 4:00 pm

February 2010 - Select panel to receive writing and illustrations of final round contestants - panel will pick a 1st, 2nd, and 3rd place winner for each grade for each category: Best Illustration; Best Writing; Best Overall Book. This will result in 27 winners from Calhoun County. Winners will receive an invitation via mail to the awards dinner - places will be announced that evening.

March 16, 2010 from 5:00 to 8:00 pm - Book sale/signing with Sarah Stewart and David Small and other local authors .

March 17, 2010 @ 7:00 pm - Miller College will host the Arthur W. Angood Awards Dinner with David Small and Sarah Stewart for all final round 1st, 2nd, and 3rd place winners and family, teachers, administrators, etc. Prizes for winners will be distributed at this time. Each child will receive 4 free tickets to the dinner - all others may purchase tickets in advance for $5.00.

March 18, 2010 - Educational Symposium featuring a presentation by David Small and Sarah Stewart - location TBD, based on interest and attendance. Information will be sent to all participating schools and local colleges as date approaches.

Dates and items in this timeline are subject to change - written notice will be provided to all participants of any necessary changes and detailed information will be given in regards to upcoming events as they approach.
